Harris Named ACC Coach of the Year; Three Players Earn All-ACC Nods

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Nancy Harris was honored as the ACC’s Coach of the Year and Yana Koroleva, Beatrice Gumulya and Romy Koelzer earned All-ACC honors as announced by the league on Wednesday. The awards are selected by the conference’s 15 head coaches. Clemson finished the regular season 20-5 overall and tied for the ACC regular season championship with a 12-2 mark in conference matches.  It is the first career ACC Coach of the Year honor for Harris, who joins Andy Johnston (1983, 1985, 1986, 1993) as Clemson’s head women’s tennis coaches to claim the award.  Koroleva was named to the All-ACC Second Team, while Gumulya and Koelzer each earned Third Team nods. The All-ACC honor is comprised of three teams of nine players each for the first time.  It is the second career honor for both Koroleva and Gumulya, who were named to the eighteen-member team last year, while Koelzer was selected for the first time.  The three players had a cumulative 70-27 singles record this season, including a 32-8 (.800) record in ACC matches.  Clemson opens play in the ACC Championships on Friday at 9 a.m. in Cary, N.C. against either Duke, Wake Forest or Maryland.  Individual Player Notes: Koroleva is 25-9 overall and 11-3 in ACC matches while ascending to the No. 32 national singles rank and No. 18 doubles rank with Gumulya. She went 18-6 at the top position in dual matches and has a team-high eight wins over ranked players, including a three-set win over the No. 5 player in the nation. Koroleva was an All-American in 2013, as well as the ACC’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  Gumulya has a 21-11 record with a 10-4 mark in ACC matches. Her comeback win over Caroline Price of UNC last week kept the Tigers alive in the upset of the then-No. 7 Tar Heels. Gumulya also owns a 25-10 doubles record, and a 14-5 record at the top position.  Koelzer had a breakout season in which she compiled a 24-7 overall mark and an 11-1 record in ACC play, and won 11 straight matches at one point. She went 12-2 at the No. 2 position and ascended as high as No. 31 in the national singles rankings (she is currently 33rd).  FULL ACC AWARDS: Individual Award Winners Player of the Year – Jamie Loeb, North Carolina Freshman of the Year – Haley Carter, North Carolina Coach of the Year – Nancy Harris, Clemson All‐ACC First Team Jamie Loeb, Fr., North Carolina Julia Elbaba @, So., Virginia Beatrice Capra @, So.  Duke Hayley Carter, Fr., North Carolina Stephanie Wagner @, So., Miami Ester Goldfeld #, Jr., Duke Kendal Woodard @, So., Georgia Tech Hanna Mar #, Sr., Duke Danielle Collins, So., Virginia All‐ACC Second Team Joelle Kissell #, Sr.,  NC State Caroline Price @, Jr., North Carolina Kelsey Laurente, So.,  Miami Megan Kurey, So., Georgia Tech Kerrie Cartwright, Jr., Florida State Jessica Wacnik, Jr., Boston College Yana Koroleva @, Sr., Clemson Maddie Kobelt, Sr., Syracuse Stephanie Nauta @, So., Virginia All‐ACC Third Team Daneika Borthwick @, Jr., Florida State Romy Koelzer, Jr., Clemson Beatrice Gumulya @, Jr., Clemson Lina Lileikite, Jr., Miami Alexandra Stanova, Fr., Maryland Rachel Pierson, Fr., Virginia Britney Sanders, Sr., Notre Dame Francesca Fusinato, Fr., Virginia Tech Ilinca Stoica, So., Virginia Tech @ ‐ Two‐time honoree # ‐ Three‐time honoree
