CLEMSON, S.C. – Two members of the Clemson women’s tennis team, junior Daniela Ruiz and freshman Constanza Gorches, were named to the 2017 All-ACC Academic Women’s Tennis Team, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Ruiz, an industrial engineering major, has a career cumulative grade point average above 3.50. The native of Beni, Bolivia is a doubles specialist for the Tigers, posting an 18-3 record in dual doubles matches in 2017 and a 10-1 ledger in Atlantic Coast Conference matches. In May, Ruiz was named a 2017 NSCA All-American Strength & Conditioning Athlete of the Year.
Gorches, a pre-business major from Mexico City, Mexico, had a successful first season with the Tigers in 2017. She recorded a team-best 15 dual singles wins on the season, finishing with a 15-8 overall record. Gorches was named ACC Player of the Week on March 13.
ABOUT THE AWARDMinimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
