Dalton, GA– – Senior Lucas Glover fired a four-under-par 68 and sophomore D.J. Trahan added a three-under-par 69 to lead Clemson to a third-place ranking after the first round of the Carpet Capital Classic in Dalton, GA.
Georgia, ranked number-one in the nation in the latest MasterCard rankings, shot a 278 team score, 10-under-par. They were led by Nick Cassini with a 65, the low individual round of the day. UCLA is second at 281 , followed by the second-ranked Tigers at 283.
Georgia Tech is fourth at 286, while Florida is fifth at 292. Tennessee and East Tennessee State are tied for sixth at 292. Arizona State, Augusta State, Auburn and Virginia are all tied for eighth at 294, while South Carolina is 12th at 296. Wake Forest and NC State are tied for 13th at 299. North Carolina is 15th at 304.
Glover, a first-team All-American last year, is third individually after his 68 on Friday. Trahan, the reigning United States Public Links Champion, is tied for fourth with his 69 score. Ben Duncan, a red-shirt sophomore, shot a solid 71 and is tied for 14th. Gregg Jones, a red-shirt freshman playing in his first career tournament, had a 75, while John Engler had a 76.
The second round will be played on the par 72, 6906-yard course on Saturday, and the tournament will finish on Sunday with the final 18 holes.
