CLEMSON, SC – Four Clemson women’s tennis players were listed in the ITA Regional rankings, released on Dec. 2, with freshman Federica van Adrichem leading the way for the Tigers at number two in the Southeast. Daniela Alvarez, Maria Brito and Carol Salge were also ranked in the Tigers’ region for singles play, and Alvarez and van Adrichem were listed in the doubles rankings as well.
A native of Amersfoort in The Netherlands, van Adrichem boasted a 9-4 record in the 2005 fall season. She won six straight matches in the ITA Southeast Regional tournament from Oct. 14-17 to claim the title and advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships. Three of her nine victories were over ranked opponents.
Brito is ranked #19 after putting together a 9-1 record in the fall. Her only loss of the season was to 68th-ranked Jackie Charleton of Duke in the ITA Southeast Regionals.
Alvarez and Salge are listed 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Alvarez, a native of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, was 7-4 during the fall season, while sophomore Salge had a 7-3 record.
Alvarez and van Adrichem earned a #4 ranking in the Southeast doubles poll after an 8-2 record in the fall. The Clemson duo fell in the quarterfinals of the ITA Southeast Regional to the 11th ranked team in the nation.
The Tigers will begin the spring season against the College of Charleston on Jan. 28 at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Clemson’s campus. The first ITA national team and individual rankings of 2006 will be released on Jan. 10.
