Four Tigers Set to Compete at NCAA Individual Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – Four members of the women’s tennis program will compete in the NCAA Individual Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., beginning Wednesday. Romy Koelzer and Yana Koroleva will each compete in the Singles draw, while Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies team up in the Doubles event.  Koroleva, a Second-Team All-ACC selection, is making her second appearance in the event. Last season, she advanced to the Quarterfinal round, earning All-America honors. She’ll open at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday against 40th-ranked Kiah Generette of Baylor. Koroleva is ranked 34th nationally, and holds a 26-9 record with eight wins over ranked opponents.  Koelzer, ranked 33rd nationally, will make her NCAA Singles debut against 47th-ranked Nadia Ravita of Kentucky at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Koelzer, an All-ACC Third Team selection was 24-8 this season as a junior, including an 11-1 mark in ACC play.   Gumulya and Rompies will play the top doubles seed, Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady of UCLA. The Tiger duo played together 12 times this season, winning ten of their meetings. Doubles First Round play begins on Thursday. The two grew up playing doubles together in Jakarta, Indonesia, and have advanced as far as the U.S. Open Juniors Semifinals in 2008.  The women’s tennis team was eliminated from the Team Championships last week by Duke in the Round of 16.  May 21 // Singles 1st Round 10:30 a.m. – Romy Koelzer v.
