Four Tigers Reach Third Stage of Q School

Clemson, SC – Former Clemson golfers Matt Hendrix, John Engler and Elliott Gealy all advanced to the third and final state of PGA Tour Qualifying over the weekend. Hendrix and Engler both had top 10 finishes in Kingswood, TX, while Gealy qualified from McKinney, TX.

Danny Ellis, an All-American at Clemson from 1990-93, will also compete in the third and final stage, slated to take place in Winter Garden, FL November 30 to December 5. Ellis was exempt through the first two stages by virtue of his #25 finish on the Nationwide Tour Money List in 2005.

Hendrix, a senior All-American on Clemson’s 2004 team, had a six-under-par 282 for his four rounds at Kingswood, TX November 9-12. He finished tied for third at the tournament to qualify for the final stage. He shot three-under-par for his last 13 holes in the final round to make the third stage easily.

Engler, who was a three-time All-American at Clemson from 1997-01, finished seventh in the second stage held at Kingswood, TX with a 284 score, four-under par. He had rounds of 69-75-68-72. His 68 in the third round included six birdies.

Gealy qualified from McKinney, TX when he shot a two-over-par 290 for the fourth rounds. He finished 17th in the field, finishing just above the cutline. A senior on Clemson’s 1998-99 team, Gealy posted rounds of 72-73-70-75. Lucas Glover, Charles Warren, D.J. Trahan and Jonathan Byrd all will return to the PGA Tour in 2006 after finishing in the top 125 of the 2005 PGA Tour season.
