CLEMSON, SC–English Premier League (EPL) Soccer Club Tottenham have signed Canada international defender Paul Stalteri from German club Werder Bremen.
The 27-year-old full-back was understood to be out of contract at the Bundesliga side, with whom he won both the domestic league and cup last year.
Stalteri was featured in the Champions League this season as Bremen reached the final-16 before getting knocked out by French side Lyon.
Tottenham sporting director Frank Arnesen said: “Paul Stalteri is a defender who can play in midfield. He is a multi-functional player, who can play on both sides.
“He has come from a tough environment at Werder Bremen and their players are well known for their mentality. His biggest success was last year winning the double and he has now had good experience of European football.
“I am delighted to get him in. There were a lot of clubs chasing him including some from England. He will be a big plus for the squad.”
