Five Women’s Tennis Players Earn Regional Rankings

Dec. 8, 2006

CLEMSON, SC – Three Clemson women’s tennis players and two Tiger doubles teams were listed in the Southeast Regional rankings, released by the International Tennis Association on Friday. Junior Carol Salge headlined the group at #8, while freshman Ani Mijacika was ranked 20th and sophomore Federica van Adrichem was listed 27th in the singles poll. The team of Mijacika and Salge was ranked fourth in doubles, while Clemson’s duo of senior Maria Brito and sophomore Alexandra Luc was listed 13th.

Salge posted a 7-4 record during the fall season, reaching the quarterfinals of the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships in October. She then won her first-round match at the ITA National Indoor Championships in November. Mijacika joined Salge in the quarterfinals in the regional tournament and compiled a 5-3 record in her first season at Clemson. Van Adrichem played just one match during the fall due to an illness but boasted a 22-15 ledger last year.

Mijacika and Salge advanced to the final match in doubles competition at the Southeast Regional and finished the season with a 6-2 overall ledger. Brito and Luc owned a 3-2 record during the fall and reached the round of 16 at the regional event.

The Tigers will begin the 2007 spring season on Jan. 27, as they will play host to the College of Charleston.
