Five Tigers Travel to Blacksburg, VA for Last Chance Qualifier

March 3, 2006

The Clemson men’s track & field team has entered five student-athletes in the Virginia Tech Qualifier, which will take place Saturday at Rector Field House on the Hokie campus. Competing for the Tigers and hoping to earn berths in next weekend’s NCAA Championships will be Danny Alge, Jason Bell, Roy Cheney, Andrew Kessler, and Travis Padgett.

On Thursday, three Tigers ran in the Florida Fast Times Qualifier hoping to improve on their season-best times. Among the three, Roy Cheney posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a converted time of 7.86 in the 60m high hurdles. He will also run the 60m hurdles on Saturday, hoping to improve his time and earn a berth in next weekend’s NCAA Championship.

Danny Alge will try the weight throw for the Tigers and he is coming off a career-best toss of 61’0.75″ at the ACC Championships last weekend. He needs to reach 62’4″ to post a provisional mark in that event.

The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held in Fayetteville, AR next weekend. Currently, Clemson has one automatic qualifier in Adam Linkenauger and seven provisional qualifiers who hope to compete as well.
