Clemson, SC – Martin Catalioto shot a final round 69 on Sunday and finished fourth at the South Carolina Amateur at Daniel Island Club on Daniel Island, SC. Catalioto, who will be a senior at Clemson this fall, had a total of 282 for the four rounds, one of five members of the 2005-06 Clemson golf team to finish in the top 11 of the annual event.
Catalioto had rounds of 69-71-73-69 for the four days. His 69 on Sunday was one of just six rounds in the 60s on the par 72 course. He finished eight shots behind winner Emmett Turner, a former Augusta State player who fired a course record 64 on Sunday to finish at 274.
Stephen Poole, who will also be a senior at Clemson this fall, finished fifth with a 283 score off rounds of 68-68-73-74. A native of Spartanburg, SC, Poole was the individual leader after the second round and was the co-leader heading into the final round. But, he had a 74 on Sunday to finish fifth. It was his second straight top five finish in the event, as he was second at he 2004 South Carolina Amateur.
Vince Hatfield was one of three Tigers who will be freshmen at Clemson this year to compete in the event. The native of Greenwood finished seventh overall with a 285 total off consistent scores of 69-73-72-71. Ben Martin, a teammate of Hatfield’s at Greenwood High School, finished just a shot back at 286 in 11th place. Martin had rounds of 75-69-70-72.
Brian Duncan, who will also be a senior at Clemson in the fall, fired a final round 67 on Sunday and finished at 286 for the tournament to tie Martin and Tim Tang of North Charleston for11th place. Duncan’s 67 was the third best round of the day on Sunday and his best round of the tournament. The native of Greenville who played on Clemson’s 2003 National Championship team had rounds of 75-72-72-67.
Two other members of the 2005-06 Clemson team participated in the South Carolina Amateur. Frank Wrenn IV, who will be a red-shirt freshman in 2005-06, finished 20th with a 293, while Phillip Mollica, who will be a first-year freshman this year, had a 299 score for the four days and finished 40th.
