The Clemson women’s soccer team is set to compete in their first road series of the 2019 season as they travel to the midwest for a weekend showdown with the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Creighton Bluejays. The Tigers will begin their road series in Lincoln as they battle the Huskers on August 30 at 8:05 p.m. ET before heading to Omaha for a September 1 match against the Bluejays at 1 p.m. ET.
The Tigers have gotten off to an impressive start in 2019 by outscoring opponents 8-0 in the first two games while boasting a 47-5 shot differential to start the season. Sophomore Renee Guion has led the way for the Tigers with 5 assists through two games, four coming in the most recent match against Coastal Carolina. However, junior forward Mariana Speckmaier found the back of the net twice in under a minute against the Chanticleers to tally her first points of the new season. On the backline, senior Dani Antieau has made it on the scoresheet with two goals on the year thus far.
Freshmen have made a noticeable impact for the Tigers, recording two goals and two assists for Clemson through the first two matches. Hal Hershfelt opened up Clemson’s scoring for the season with a beautiful goal against Utah while Maliah Morris found the back of the net to give the Tigers the early advantage against the Chants. Expect the young talent to continue to be a key component throughout the upcoming matchups.
Coming into the weekend, Clemson is the first team receiving votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches poll.
