Advance, NC – Former Clemson All-American Brian Duncan fired a seven under par 65 on Monday to win co-medalist honors at the local US Open qualifying tournament at Oak Valley Golf Club in Advance, NC on Monday, May 14, 2007.
Duncan tied with Ryan Sypniewski of Pulaski, VA with the seven under par scores. Sypniewski is a member of the Virginia Tech golf team. Duncan was an All-American on Clemson’s 2006 team that finished seventh in the nation.
Duncan and current Clemson freshman Kyle Stanley have advanced to US Open sectional qualifying tournaments at sites to be announced later this month. The US Open is June 14-17 will be played at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, PA on June 14-17, 2007. Former Clemson All-American and PGA Tour player Lucas Glover has already qualified for the US Open.
Four current members of the Clemson men’s golf team will attempt to advance in qualifying next Monday at a course in Columbia, SC.
Among the former Tigers who failed to advance on Monday were Stephen Poole, a starter on Clemson’s 2006 team. Poole finished 11th at the local qualifying tournament on Monday. Ben Duncan a starter on Clemson’s 2003 National Championship team finished 40th and also failed to qualify.
This qualifier was conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
