Duke Knocks Off Clemson In ACC Women’s Tennis Action

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to second-ranked Duke Sunday afternoon in Clemson. The Tigers finished the regular season with an 8-13 overall record and an 1-7 mark in the ACC, while the Blue Devils improve to 19-1 overall and 6-0 in the ACC.

At number one doubles, Clemson’s Anna Savitskaya and Milena Stanoycheva lost an 8-6 decision to Ansley Cargill and Megan Miller while Duke’s Hillary Adams and Amanda Johnson defeated Ana Stiglic and Christina Oldock 8-6 at two doubles. Katie Granson and Kathy Sell completed Duke’s doubles sweep with an 8-1 win over Ashlea Bowen and Anna Dolinska.

In singles, Clemson’s top-seeded Anna Savitskaya lost to Ansley Cargill, 6-2, 6-0, and the Blue Devils’ Amanda Johnson defeated second-seeded Milena Stanoycheva lost a 6-0, 6-4 decision to Duke’s Kathy Sell, and Katie Granson defeated the Tigers’ Ana Stiglic in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 2-6,10-6, at four singles. Fifth-seeded Anna Dolinska, 6-1, 6-4.

Clemson will play in the 2001 ACC Women’s Tennis Championships next Thursday through Saturday (Apr. 19-21) at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL.
