Clemson, SC – Brent Delahoussaye fired a final round 69, his third round in the 60s in four days, and won the Monroe Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Pittsford, NY. The event was held at the Monroe Country Club in upstate New York and features 60 of the top amateur golfers in the nation.
Delahoussaye, who red-shirted this past season as a member of Clemson’s National Championship team, looks to fill one of the two spots open on next year’s starting lineup as the result of the graduation of D.J Trahan and Ben Duncan. Trahan won the Monroe Invitational last year.
The rising junior who attended Riverside High School in Greenville had rounds of 67-73-65-69 for a 274 total on the par 70 course and won by one shot over Peter Tomasulo, a golfer at the University of California, and Casey Wittenberg an amateur golfer from Memphis, TN.
This marked the third straight victory for a Clemson golfer, or team in a major amateur event. Clemson won the NCAA team championship at Stillwater, OK on May 30th. Last Sunday, Matt Hendrix, a rising senior on the 2004 Clemson team, won the Sunnehanna Invitational in Pennsylvania. Now, Delahoussaye has added his name to the list.
Hendrix also competed in the Monroe and finished fourth overall with a 276 total, four-under par. He had a 68 on Saturday to go with previous rounds of 70-68-70. Gregg Jones, who will also be a senior at Clemson next year, finished ninth with a 280 total after rounds of 70-69-71-70. Jack Ferguson, who will be a junior on Clemson’s team next year, had round of 74-68-68-75 and finished 26th with a 285 total. Rising sophomore Martin Catalioto finished at 290, 10-over-par and in 44th place.
