GREENSBORO, NC – Clemson junior Josipa Bek has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after posting three ranked wins and leading the Tigers to a pair of league road victories. It is the first career honor for Bek.
Playing on the No. 1 court, Bek defeated 30th-ranked Martina Pavelec of Wake Forest ,6-1, 6-4, to key a 5-2 Clemson team win. The Osijek, Croatia native, who is ranked 12th nationally, then defeated 73rd-ranked Sandyha Nagaraj of NC State in three sets (2-6, 6-1, 6-0) to lead another 5-2 victory for the Tigers.
The second singles win was meaningful for two reasons – Bek became the school’s all-time leader in three-set wins with 27, and moved into 10th in Clemson history in singles wins with her 89th. Bek also teamed with Keri Wong to defeat 19th-ranked Bhambri and Nagaraj at number one doubles on Sunday. The Clemson duo is ranked No. 1 nationally and stands 23-6 overall and 3-0 in the ACC. Bek is now 15-3 in dual match play in singles, and 4-1 in ACC play.
