GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson’s Ani Mijacika has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after posting 2-0 records in both singles and doubles action against four ranked opponents from No. 4 Georgia and No. 31 South Carolina.
Mijacika, the first Tiger to be tabbed for the league’s award this season, proved her billing as the No. 1 singles player in the nation. The sophomore from Makarska, Croatia, cruised to a pair of straight set victories at the top singles flight against South Carolina’s 35th-ranked player Gira Schfield (6-1, 6-2) and 45th-ranked Kelley Hyndman from Georgia (6-4, 6-1).
In doubles, Mijacika partnered with Carol Salge for just the third and fourth times this spring. The twosome recorded upset victories over South Carolina’s 17th-ranked tandem of Gira Schofield and Ana Marija Zubori and Georgia’s 36th-ranked duo of Monika Dancevic and Kelley Hyndman at the No. 1 spot.
The Tigers are back on the road this week, as they travel to Georgia Tech to kick off conference action on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
