Clemson Women’s Tennis To Play Host To Virginia Tech, Virginia

CLEMSON, SC – The 23rd-ranked Tiger women’s tennis team will welcome Virginia Tech and Virginia to the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center this weekend in the second-to-last weekend of regular season action. Clemson will take on the Hokies at 9:00 am on Saturday, a change from the previously announced time of 11:00 am. The Tigers and Cavaliers are then slated for a 12:00 pm match on Sunday.

Having won its last three matches, Clemson enters the weekend with an 8-9 overall record and a 4-3 ACC ledger. Virginia Tech will then bring to Tigertown a 14-7 overall mark that includes a 2-5 record against conference foes, while Virginia is 9-8 on the year and 5-2 in ACC matches. The Cavaliers will face Georgia Tech on Saturday.

The Tigers boast the two most recent conference players-of-the-week in Ani Mijacika and Carol Salge. Mijacika held the #2 singles ranking in the Fila/ITA Tennis singles poll released on Wednesday and owns a 23-5 overall record. Salge, who is the reigning a co-player-of-the-week, reentered the poll at #85 this week. The senior is riding a six-match singles winning streak. Mijacika and Salge have partnered for a 9-2 record in doubles play this spring and are ranked eighth in the doubles poll.

Clemson vs. Virginia Tech, The Series Clemson holds an 8-3 advantage against Virginia Tech in a series that began in 1985. The Tigers posted a 6-1 victory over the Hokies last season in Blacksburg, VA and won by the same margin at the Hoke Sloan Tennis center in 2006.

Clemson vs. Virginia, The Series The Tigers defeated Virginia three times in 2007 to improve to 29-4 all-time against the Cavaliers. Clemson won, 5-2, during the regular season in Charlottesville and then defeated Virginia, 4-0, in the second round of the ACC Tournament. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA Championships with a 4-1 victory over the Cavaliers in the regional finals held at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
