Clemson Women’s Tennis To Play Host To 5th-Ranked Duke and 12th-Ranked North Carolina

April 10, 2003

CLEMSON, S.C. – The 17th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team will play host to #5 Duke and #12 North Carolina this weekend at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The match against the Blue Devils will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, while the Tigers are scheduled to take on the Tar Heels at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. Clemson is 16-3 overall and 6-0 in the ACC, which is the Tigers’ best start in league play since the 1983 season when the team went undefeated in the conference. Clemson and Duke are the only undefeated teams remaining in the ACC, while North Carolina’s only conference loss has been to Duke.

Clemson is 12-21 all time against Duke. In 2002, the then-#5 Blue Devils defeated the Tigers by a score of 6-1 in Durham. This season Duke has a 21-2 overall record and is 6-0 in league play, most recently winning a 7-0 decision over Wake Forest in Winston-Salem.

The Tigers hold a 26-10 all-time advantage over the Tar Heels. Last season, Clemson lost a 5-2 decision to then seventh-ranked North Carolina in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels are 14-6 overall this season (5-1 in the ACC) after defeating N.C. State by a score of 7-0 in Chapel Hill. North Carolina is scheduled to play #23 Georgia Tech on Saturday in Atlanta before traveling to Clemson on Sunday.
