Clemson Women’s Tennis to Open Fall Season at Furman Fall Classic

Sept. 23, 2009

CLEMSON, SC – Nancy Harris will lead the Tiger women’s tennis team to Greenville, SC, where the Tigers will participate in the Furman Fall Classic from Friday until Sunday. The tournament features 22 of the top 125 players in the nation, according to the ITA Tennis Preseason Poll. The participating schools are Clemson, Furman, Florida State, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Northwestern.

Sophomore Ina Hadziselimovic (99) were both All-Americans a season ago.

Matchups will be released later in the week but Clemson’s lineup will be as follows:

Singles: Flight 1: Josipa Bek (9) Flight 2: Keri Wong (81) Flight 3: Ina Hadziselimovic (99) Flight 4: Estefania Balda Flight 5: Laurianne Henry Flight 6: Nelly Ciolkowski Flight 7: Caroline Magnusson

Doubles: Flight 1: Bek/Hadziselimovic (14) Flight 2: Wong/Magnusson Flight 3: Balda/Ciolkowski

The flight one draw will undoubtedly be one of the best of the young season, as #1 Maria Mosolova (Northwestern), #9 Bek (Clemson), #12 Sanaz Marand (UNC), #24 Noemi Scharle (FSU), #27 Caitlin Whoriskey (Tenn.), and #29 Ana Zubori (S. Car.) are among the top players in attendance.

The Tigers return three All-Americans from a squad that reached the Sweet 16 a season ago. Bek and Hadziselimovic reached the Elite 8 in doubles as a tandem and are ranked #14 to start the season in 2009.

This will be an early season test for the Tigers, who will send several players to the ITA All-America Championships from Oct. 3-11.
