CLEMSON, SC – The Tiger women’s tennis team, ranked 22nd in the Feb. 28 FILA/ITA poll, will open the 2006 ACC season on Wednesday, Mar. 1 when it travels to Georgia Tech. Clemson will face the Yellow Jackets at 2:00 PM at the Bill Moore Tennis Complex in Atlanta, GA. The Tigers bring a 4-2 record to the match while third-ranked Georgia Tech boasts a 5-1 mark.
Clemson has controled the series with the Yellow Jackets, leading by a 21-4 margin. However, Georgia Tech claimed last year’s contest, upsetting the then-ranked #18 Tigers, 6-1, in Clemson, SC. The Yellow Jackets were ranked #23 at the time. The Tigers won the last match played on Georgia Tech’s home court, defeating the Yellow Jackets, 4-3, in the 2004 season.
Sophomore Carol Salge has led the Tiger team so far this season, posting an 11-4 overall record and a 5-1 mark in dual matches. She was named an ACC Co-Player of the Week on Feb. 27 after helping Clemson to upset #18 Georgia on Feb. 22. The doubles team of Salge and freshman Federica van Adrichem has won four straight matches at the flight one position, including an upset of the ninth-ranked team from Georgia last week.
