CLEMSON, SC – The 18th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team will participate in the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, WI beginning on Thursday, Feb. 1. The annual event will feature 16 of the nation’s top teams in a four-day tournament held at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.

The Tigers (2-0) will face #4 Notre Dame (2-0) at 4:30 pm Eastern Time on Thursday in first-round action. The winners bracket will resume competition at 4:30 pm on Friday while the consolation rounds will be played at 10:00 am.

This will be Clemson’s third appearance in the event, which is in its 20th year. The Tigers most recently competed at the 2005 tournament where they defeated fourth-ranked UCLA for one of the program’s top wins in history. Clemson also won a forfeited match by Tulane after falling to Kentucky in the opening round that year.

In the 1994 season, the Tigers suffered a loss to #2 Stanford in the first round. They then defeated Mississippi before falling to Southern California in their third match of the tournament.

This year’s field of 16 includes four ACC teams, the most of any other conference, with Georgia Tech, North Carolina and 2006 national runner-up Miami earning invitations, in addition to Clemson. Baylor, Brigham Young, California, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Pepperdine, three-time defending champion Stanford, TCU, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Virginia Commonwealth and Wisconsin make up the remaining 12 teams.
