Clemson Women’s Tennis Team to Open Season on Saturday

Jan. 28, 2005

Clemson, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team, ranked third in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, will open its 2005 season on Saturday against Virginia Tech. The Tigers will begin their quest to defend their ACC title and return to the NCAA Final Four at 12:00pm in Blacksburg, VA.

Clemson holds a 5-3 edge over the Hokies in the series history. The two teams last met in Clemson in 2003, with the Tigers winning the match by a score of 4-3. This will be their first meeting as ACC foes.

The Tigers have opened the season four times on their opponent’s home court and have been the victor in each. This is the first time since the 1987-88 season that the Tigers have opened with an away contest. Clemson won the match against UNC-Asheville by a score of 5-3 that year.

The Tigers are led by senior Julie Coin. Last season, Coin posted a 32-9 overall record as an All-American and NCAA semifinalist. The Amiens, France native was also named the 2004 ACC Player-of-the-Year.
