CLEMSON, SC – The 27th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team will play host to UNC-Greensboro on Friday and #18 South Carolina on Saturday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson. The match against the Spartans is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Saturday’s match, which features two top-30 ranked teams, is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
The Tigers have a 3-1 record on the season. Last weekend, Clemson defeated Chattanooga, 6-1, and Charlotte, 7-0, in Clemson. The Tigers are currently ranked 27th by the ITA according to the poll released on Feb. 12, moving up two spots from a ranking of 29th in the previous poll.
Clemson holds a 3-0 advantage in matches against UNC-Greensboro. Last season, the Tigers won a 7-0 decision over the Spartans in Clemson. UNC-Greensboro is 0-3 on the season, dropping a 7-0 decision to North Carolina last weekend.
The Tigers are 15-21 all-time against the Gamecocks. In 1996, then-20th-ranked Clemson defeated then-#14 South Carolina in the NCAA Southeast Regional in Columbia, SC by a score of 5-4. The Tigers’ most recent regular season win against the Gamecocks was in 1993, when then-#13 Clemson won an 8-1 decision over then-25th-ranked South Carolina in Clemson. Last season, Clemson fell to then-#22 South Carolina by a score of 6-1 in Columbia. The Gamecocks are 2-0 on the season, most recently winning a 4-3 decision over Furman.
