CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team defeated Charlotte on Saturday morning by a score of 7-0 at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Clemson’s campus. With the win, the 29th-ranked Tigers improve to 3-1 on the season, while the 49ers fall to 1-2.
In doubles play, Clemson’s team of Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet defeated Charlotte’s Ashleigh Murray and Laura Swain by a score of 8-1 at flight one. At number two doubles, the Tigers’ Alix Lacelarie and Ana Stiglic won an 8-5 decision over Jennifer Hatch and Lindsay Morris of Charlotte. Clemson’s Daniela Alvarez and Richele LeSaldo combined at flight three doubles to defeat the 49ers’ Marilyn Clark and Courtney Clifford, 8-1.
In singles action, Coin, currently ranked #23 in the ITA singles poll, defeated Swain by a score of 6-0, 6-2 at flight one. Lacelarie won a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Morris at flight two, while Stiglic defeated Murray, 6-1, 6-4 at flight three. At the four singles position, Alvarez took a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Clark, while Jayet was victorious over Hatch by a score of 6-1, 6-0 at five singles. The Tigers’ Ioana Paun won a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Charlotte’s Megan Bullins at flight six.
The Tigers will play host to UNC Greensboro on Friday, Feb. 14. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson.
