Clemson Women’s Tennis Team Defeats Iowa 6-1 On Saturday

NASHVILLE, TN – The 13th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team won a 6-1 decision over Iowa on Saturday afternoon in Nashville, TN. With the win, the Tigers improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Hawkeyes fall to 5-1.

In doubles action, the Tigers’ 12th-ranked team of Maria Brito and Julie Coin defeated Iowa’s Hillary Mintz and Meg Racette by a score of 8-4 at flight one. Clemson’s Richele LeSaldo and Karen Rombouts won an 8-2 decision over the Hawkeyes’ Deni Alexandrova and Anastasia Zhukova at number two doubles. The Tigers won the number three doubles match by default.

In singles play, ninth-ranked Coin of Clemson defeated Racette, 7-5, 6-1, at the number one position. At flight two, Iowa’s Mintz won a 7-6(5), 5-7, 1-0(10-7) decision over #78 Brito. The Tigers’ Rombouts defeated Chelsea Glynn by a score of 6-2, 6-0 at flight three. LeSaldo defeated Zhukova in three sets (6-3, 0-6, 1-0(10-7)) at four singles, while Clemson’s Silvia Gutierrez was victorious over Alexandrova, 6-1, 7-5, at flight five. Clemson won the flight six singles match by default.

The Tigers will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 29 as they travel to Mobile, AL to take on South Alabama. The match between the Tigers and the Jaguars will be held at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Courts and is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
