Clemson Women’s Tennis Results From Thomasville Collegiate Invitational

CLEMSON, SC – Two Clemson women’s tennis players competed in the Thomasville Collegiate Invitational in Thomasville, GA this past weekend. Sophomore Alexandra Luc won two of her four singles matches, while freshman Samantha Eppelsheimer went 1-3 in the tournament.

Luc defeated Lysak Nadia of Auburn Montgomery on Friday afternoon (3-6, 6-1, 11-9) and West Florida’s Suzanne Cavalcante, the #2 seeded player (3-6, 6-2, 11-9). Luc then fell to third-seeded Martina Nitkova of Georgia State, 6-3, 6-7(4), 5-10 before withdrawing from the tournament due to an injury.

Clemson freshman Samantha Eppelsheimer won the first match of her collegiate career on Friday morning. She defeated Nicole Stafford of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Eppelsheimer then suffered losses in her final three singles matches to finish the weekend with a 1-3 record.

In doubles action, the Clemson duo won an 8-2 decision over Carter and Ruiz deGauna of Tennessee Tech in the opening round. Eppelsheimer and Luc then fell to Kozmina and Nitkova of Georgia State, 8-4, in second-round action.

Up next on the Tigers’ fall tournament schedule is the annual Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, SC from Sept. 29 – Oct. 1.
