Clemson Women’s Tennis Ranked 34th in Post Season National Team Rankings

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team was ranked #34 in the post season Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings released on May 31 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Tiger freshman Alix Lacelarie was ranked 31st by the ITA in the final individual singles poll.

The Tigers defeated William & Mary in the first round of the 2002 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships, before falling to Wake Forest in the second round. Clemson completed the 2002 season with a 14-11 overall record and a 5-3 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Lacelarie, a freshman from Villeneuve-Les-Beziers, France, reached the second round of the 2002 NCAA Singles Championships, defeating California’s Christina Fusano in the first round before falling to Megan Bradley of UCLA. Lacelarie finished the season with an overall singles record of 28-13 and an 18-7 dual match record at the number one singles flight.

Lacelarie and teammate Laurence Jayet were ranked #52 by the ITA in the doubles team rankings. The pair had a 15-7 dual match record in doubles for the season. Clemson senior Anna Savitskaya placed #102 in the final singles poll, posting an overall singles record of 23-12.
