Clemson Women’s Tennis Ranked #11 In Final 2007 Poll

May 25, 2007

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team earned the #11 ranking in the final Fila/ITA Tennis poll of the 2007 season, released on Friday, May 25. The Tigers boasted a 22-5 overall record for the year and advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Championships for the third time in the last four seasons.

They have now been ranked in the top 25 for 23 consecutive polls, dating back to Mar. 28, 2006. Clemson spent nine straight polls listed in the top 10 during 2007 to set a program record for consecutive polls ranked among the top 10 in a single season. The team was ranked as high as #5 this year.

The ranking also marks the sixth straight year that the Tigers have finished the season ranked in the top 25 and the 21st overall top-25 final ranking in program history.

Clemson defeated six top-25 teams during the season, including national champion Georgia Tech and national runner-up UCLA. Meanwhile, all five of the Tigers’ losses were suffered against teams ranked in the top 10 in the final poll.

With its 10-1 conference record, Clemson was co-champion of the ACC regular season, and Tiger Ani Mijacika was named the ACC Freshman-of-the-Year.
