Clemson Women’s Tennis Draws Sixth Seed in ACC Tournament

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team has earned the No. 6 seed in the ACC Tournament, which is held at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, NC from April 21-24. The Tigers will take on 11-seed Virginia Tech at 3:00 pm on Thursday.

The Tigers defeated the Hokies on Sunday by a 7-0 margin, and will play consecutive matches against Virginia Tech. Clemson enters the match with a 18-9 record and a 6-5 mark in league play. The Hokies are 10-14 and finished 2-9 in league play, and  are ranked 52nd nationally.

The winner will go on to play 3-seed Miami, who is ranked No. 5 in the nation, in the quarterfinals at 3:00 pm on Friday.

The strength of the league is apparent, as Clemson is ranked 12th in the nation with the sixth seed. The ACC features nine teams among the top 35 in the nation. Duke (No. 3), North Carolina (No. 4) and Miami (No. 5) all rank among the nation’s top five teams, followed by Clemson (12), Georgia Tech (13), and Virginia (17).

Duke (10-1 ACC) earned the top overall seed in the tournament, followed by North Carolina (9-2 ACC), Miami (9-2 ACC) and Virginia (7-4 ACC).
