MOBILE, Ala. – The Clemson women’s tennis team competed at the South Alabama Invitational held last weekend at the Mobile Tennis Center. The first and second round singles matches were completed Friday, as well as some of the first round doubles matches. Inclement weather canceled play on Saturday, and the final rounds of singles as well as the second and final rounds of doubles were played on Sunday. The Tigers won three individual singles titles, as Alix Lacelarie, Anna Savitskaya, Anna Dolinska and Laurence Jayet claimed their flight championships.
In flight A singles, freshman Alix Lacelarie (Villeneuve-des-Beizieres, France) defeated NSU’s Leiza Young, 6-0, 6-1. In the second round, she picked up another straight-set win, defeating FAMU’s Rochelle Goldthreate 6-2, 6-4. Lacelarie completed the tournament undefeated, winning 6-2, 6-2 over South Alabama’s Viktoria Stoklasova in the flight A singles finals.
Milena Stanoycheva also won her first round match in flight A singles, defeating UNO’s Celine Avais in three sets, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1. She dropped her second round match 6-2, 6-2, to South Alabama’s Viktoria Stoklasova, then defeated Magali Risoleo (McNeese State) 6-1, 6-2.
Clemson’s Ana Stiglic defeated McNeese State’s Magali Risoleo, 6-0, 6-3, in the first round of the “B” flight, and then defeated UNO’s Patricia Osedumme in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 6-0) to advance to the finals. Stiglic lost a 6-4, 6-0, match to South Alabama’s Josien Boverhof to finish as the runner-up in flight B.
In flight “C” singles, Anna Savitskaya defeated Auburn-Montgomery’s Carla Bruno 6-3, 6-7, 6-4, in first round action. In the second round, she defeated UNO’s Ana Santoro in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, and won her finals match 6-3, 6-4, over South Alabama’s Silvia Sosnarova.
The Tigers’ Sunnie Harmon won 6-3, 6-2 over USM’s Jenifer Sibille in the first round of flight “D” singles. Harmon lost a 6-0, 6-2, decision to TU’s Lucy Wood in second round action, and fell 6-2, 6-1 to New Orleans’ Inge Veerman.
In flight “E” first round action, Laurence Jayet defeated FAMU’s Chariana Brown, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. Jayet won her second round match, 6-2, 6-0, over USM’s Mollie Boutries, and knocked off South Alabama’s Dominika Nemocovicova 7-5, 6-2, in her finals match.
Richele LeSaldo also competed in flight “E” singles. LeSaldo lost a 6-3, 6-3, first-round match to McNeese State’s Marlie Laroux, then defeated NSU’s Katy Wallace 6-4, 6-0. In her final match, LeSaldo defeated USM’s Jenifer Sibille, 6-4, 6-2.
Anna Dolinska won her first round match in flight “F” singles, 6-1, 6-0 over USM’s Olivia Berry, then defeated FAMU’s Charlene Kambarami 6-4, 6-3, in second round action. Dolinska posted a 6-3, 6-1, win over New Orleans’ Liselott Hedenberg in the finals.
In flight “G” singles, Ashlea Bowen won her first round match over USM’s Ann Harrison, 6-2, 6-0. She dropped a tough second round match to FAMU’s Sharonne Thompson, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, then rebounded to defeat USM’s Jessica Olson 6-0, 6-0.
In flight “A” doubles, Savitskaya and Richele LeSaldo lost a tough match, 8-6, to TU’s Cook and Bergman. Lacelarie and Jayet defeated FAMU’s Goldthreate and Kambarami, 8-2, in their first round match. In “B” doubles action, Stanoycheva and Stiglic defeated New Orleans’ Santoro and Hedenberg, 8-5, and in “C” doubles, Dolinska and Harmon defeated McNeese State’s Risoleo and Gando, 8-6. Clemson did not compete in the later rounds of the doubles draw due to the inclement weather.
