Clemson Women’s Tennis Competes at ITA Southeast Regional

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Two Clemson women’s tennis players competed at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Winston-Salem, NC, last weekend. Junior Laurence Jayet and freshman Alix Lacelarie represented Clemson in both singles and doubles competition.

In the first round of the singles, Laurence Jayet defeated Cynthia Oulevay of the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga by a score of 7-5, 6-4. Jayet fell to the No. 4 seed Julie DeRoo of Duke, 6-1, 6-1, in the second round.

Clemson’s Alix Lacelarie took a first round win over Wendy Rohr of Wofford, 6-1, 6-0. Lacelarie was defeated by a score of 6-3, 6-3, in the second round by North Carolina’s Julie Rotondi, who was the 6th-seeded player in the tournament.

In doubles competition, Lacelarie and Jayet defeated Cox and Shuba of UNC Asheville, 8-1 in the first round. The pair took an 8-6 victory in the second round over Wake Forest’s 16th-seeded team of Martzolf and Smith. In the semifinals of the tournament, Lacelarie and Jayet fell to 7th-seeded Kruse and Varnell of Middle Tennessee State by a score of 8-1.
