Clemson Women’s Tennis Competed in Yellow Jacket Invitational

Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson Tiger women’s tennis team competed in the Yellow Jacket Invitational held Friday through Sunday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center on the campus of Georgia Tech.

Renata Brito was defeated in the first round of the Flight A singles by Furman’s Gene Holman 6-2, 6-0 and lost her consolation match 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 to Ann Jeannette Svantesson of Central Florida.

In Flight B singles, Laurence Jayet won her first round match 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 over Furman’s Emelie Isaksson. Goergia Tech’s Jime Wong defeated Jayet 6-4, 6-1 in the round of eight and Jayet finished fifth with a win over Central Florida’s Julie Pecastaing. Anna Savitskaya advanced to the semifinals of the main draw with a win over Natlaie Briand of Rice (7-5, 6-3) before falling to Bobbi Guthrie of Georgia Tech 7-6, 6-1. Savitskaya finished fourth after a 6-3, 7-6(5) loss to Iowa’s Pascale Veraverbeke.

Ana Stiglic advanced to the semifinals in Flight C singles while Christina Oldock finished seventh. Stiglic won her first round match 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 over Central Florida’s Daniela Okal and defeated Fallon Koon of Georgia Tech 6-4, 6-2 before falling to Jennifer Hodgman (Iowa) 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Stiglic won her consolation match over Lea Miller of Georgia Tech. Oldock lost to Lea Miller 6-3, 6-1 in the round of 16, and lost to Kristen Roberson of Georgia Tech. Oldock defeated Tech’s Fallon Koon 7-5, 6-2 in the consolation round.

In Flight D singles, Ashlea Bowen won the consolation bracket while Sunnie Harmon advanced to the quarterfinals of the main draw. Bowen lost her first round match to McCall Holman of Furman 6-1, 6-1. Bowen defeated Hadas Ronen of Central Florida 6-4, 6-2 and UCF’s Amira Samara 7-5, 6-1 to win the back draw. Sunnie Harmon defeated Rice’s Kylie Wallis 6-7(5), 6-3, 10-8 and Illinois’ Erin Miller 6-3, 6-2 before falling to Beth Hayden of Iowa 6-1, 6-4. Rice’s Karen Chao defeated Harmon 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 in consolation play.

In Flight A doubles, Brito and Jayet won the back draw. Clemson’s top duo lost to Central Florida’s Gunawan and Pecastaing 8-6 in the first round before defeating Illinois’ Webb and Fazlic 8-6. Brito and Jayet defeated Waters and Briand of Rice 8-6 in the finals of the consolation draw.

Savitskaya and Oldock lost their first round match in Flight B doubles 8-3 to Iowa’s Haas and Johnson and defaulted their consolation match to Hagedorn and Goodrich of Rice.

Bowen and Stiglic were defeated 8-5 in Flight C doubles by Furman’s Holman and Cochran. Rice’s Gonzalez and Chao defeated Bowen and Stiglic 8-6 in the back draw.

Clemson will conclude its fall slate with the ITA Regional Championships in Winston-Salem, NC, on November 2-6.
