CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team will play host to #19 Wake Forest on Sunday, October 20 at 2 PM at Historic Riggs Field. The game between the Tigers (7-4-4, 4-3-2 ACC) and Demon Deacons (8-4-2, 3-4-2 ACC) will be televised on RSN and broadcast on the web on ESPN3. RSN affiliates for Sunday’s game can be found HERE. Clemson is coming off of a 0-0 double-overtime draw against Duke on Thursday at Historic Riggs Field. The Tigers are led in scoring by senior midfielder Vanessa Laxgang (5g, 2a, 12pts) and freshman forward Catrina Atanda (4g, 8pts). Freshman keeper Kailen Sheridan has given up just 11 goals and has tallied 49 saves for a .817 save percentage, which ranks second among all Atlantic Coast Conference goalkeepers. Sheridan also has seven solo shutouts on the season, which puts her in a tie for second in the league in that category.
Wake Forest, ranked 19th nationally by the NSCAA, is coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to Virginia Tech on Thursday in Blacksburg. Katie Stengel leads the Demon Deacons in scoring with 20 points, however, the team announced on October 13 that she would be out indefinitely due to injury. Riley Ridgik has six goals and two assists for 14 points on the season to rank second in scoring. In goal, Aubrey Bledsoe has allowed 12 goals while posting 52 saves on the season for a .812 save percentage.
Sunday’s match will be the 24th meeting all-time between Clemson and Wake Forest with the Tigers holding a 12-8-3 advantage overall, and a 7-4-2 advantage in games played at Historic Riggs Field. In the most recent contest between the two teams, the then-fourth-ranked Demon Deacons defeated the Tigers 4-0 on September 30, 2012 in Winston-Salem.
