Clemson Women’s Soccer Team to Play Host to #10 Virginia Sunday

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team will play host to 10th-ranked Virginia on Sunday, October 5. The contest between the Tigers and the Cavaliers is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Riggs Field. The game will be broadcast live on the Internet via ACC Select and can be viewed by clicking on the link below.

The Tigers are 4-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference after playing to a 2-2 double-overtime tie with Virginia Tech on Thursday at Riggs Field. Senior forward Julie Bolt leads Clemson in scoring with nine goals for 18 points on the season and now has 19 goals for her career. She is currently in a three-way tie for first place in the ACC for goals scored on the season. Freshmen Tara Cort and Paula Pritzen has recorded 38 saves in 765 minutes in goal for the Tigers.

The Cavaliers, ranked 10th in the most recent NSCAA poll, are 9-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 in conference play. They won a 6-0 decision over N.C. State in their most recent outing on Thursday night in Charlottesville. Sophomore Meghan Lenczyk leads Virginia in scoring with nine goals and one assist for 19 points. Senior Celeste Miles has tallied 12 saves and given up just five goals in 11 games for the Cavaliers.

Clemson has a 10-7-1 record in the series, which dates back to the 1994 season, however the Tigers have not won in the previous five contests between the two teams. In 2007, Clemson and Virginia played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime in Charlottesville.
