Clemson Women’s Soccer Team to Face South Carolina in Columbia Saturday Night

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team will travel to Columbia, SC on Saturday to face South Carolina.  The game between the Tigers and Gamecocks will kick off at 7:00 PM at Eugene E. Stone III Stadium.

The Tigers are 3-1 on the season, most recently defeating Presbyterian College by a score of 6-0 on Sunday, August 26.  Against the Blue Hose, sophomore midfielder Katelyn Reeve scored two goals and junior midfielder Vanessa Laxgang tallied three assists, while junior forward Tabitha Padgett recorded a goal and an assist.

Padgett leads the team in scoring with five points (one goal, three assists), while Reeve and sophomore forward Liska Dobberstein rank in a tie for second on the team with four points (two goals) apiece.  Freshman keeper Hunter Rittgers has posted 13 saves and three shutouts (two solo) through the first four games of the season.

South Carolina is 2-1-1 on the season, most recently defeating Jacksonville (3-0) in Columbia.  The Gamecocks are led in scoring by Coryn Bajema, who has three goals for six points on the year.  Darien Vercillo has recorded 10 saves in goal for South Carolina.

The Tigers are 10-7 against the Gamecocks all time, however South Carolina has won the last four meetings between the two schools.  In 2011, the Gamecocks defeated the Tigers by a score of 2-0 at Historic Riggs Field.
