Box Score

ATHENS, GA – The Clemson women’s soccer team fell to Northeastern by a score of 2-1 on Friday afternoon at the Georgia Nike Invitational in Athens, GA. Senior midfielder Lily Boleyn scored the lone goal in the loss, which dropped the Tigers’ record to 1-2 on the season. The Huskies improved to 3-0 with the win.

The game was scoreless until the 52nd minute, when Northeastern’s Devin Petta netted her first of two goals in the game. Petta struck again at the 64:26 mark to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead.

The Tigers cut the deficit in half with a goal in the 81st minute. Senior midfielder Lily Boleyn scored her first goal of the season and the second of her Tiger career at the 80:47 mark. Freshman forward Maddy Elder sent the pass to Boleyn for the first assist of her Clemson career.

“”We were really disappointed at how long it took us to get into the game today competitively,” said Head Coach Hershey Strosberg. “We actually started putting some good ideas together but it wasn’t until we were down. We must show better tenacity from the start and be able to have the same resolve and fight that we did for the last part of the game.

“We are looking forward to being able to get back on the field on Sunday to put a more complete game together.”

Clemson will face Florida Atlantic on Sunday at the Georgia Nike Invitational. The game between the Tigers and the Owls will begin at 11:00 AM at UGA Soccer Stadium.
