CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team fell to Miami on Friday afternoon by a score of 3-0 at Historic Riggs Field. With the loss, the Tigers drop to 5-6 overall and 0-3 in ACC play, while the Hurricanes improve to 7-3-1 (1-1 ACC).

Miami scored the game’s first goal in the 26th minute of play. Freshman defender Tara Schwitter came up with a loose ball inside the box. Schwitter’s shot hit the crossbar and bounced into the goal to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead. The Hurricanes scored again in the 58th minute and the 72nd minute on goals by Jordan Roseboro and Lauren Singer, respectively.

For the game, Clemson took eight shots and had four corner kick opportunities, while Miami had 16 shots and five corner kicks. Tiger freshman goalkeeper Lauren Arnold posted seven saves in the contest, while Vikki Alonzo recorded five for the Hurricanes.

“Coming into the game I felt that the girls had been working hard and were excited,” said Head Coach Hershey Strosberg. “I think that excitement translated into us being over-anxious today. We rushed decisions and left ourselves vulnerable at times. Miami is a good team and is going to do well in the league. Still, it is disheartening to have this kind of result at home.

“We need to get everyone to fulfill their responsibilities on the field. We have been asking a lot of our back line and of Lauren Arnold in goal because we are turning the ball over too quickly. We are still trying to play through some injuries and that has certainly affected us. Regardless, we have to be smarter and more disciplined without the ball and everyone needs to be accountable.”

Clemson will begin a four-game road stand in Tallahassee, FL on Thursday, October 7. The Tigers will take on the 14th-ranked Seminoles in a 7:00 PM contest at The Seminole Soccer Complex.
