CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team fell to Coastal Carolina Friday night by a score of 1-0 at Historic Riggs Field. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 5-3, while the Chanticleers improve to 4-4 with the win.

The game was scoreless for over 89 minutes of regulation before the Chanticleers’ Amanda Clark netted the game-winning goal with just seven seconds left on the clock.

It was a statistically even contest, with each team taking nine shots and two corner kicks in the game. Freshman keeper Lauren Arnold posted four saves for Clemson and Jessica Barton recorded four stops in goal for Coastal Carolina.

“I thought we did enough to win, but we can’t stop competing and we can’t let up. We faced a team that played with more heart than we did tonight, and that should sting for our team,” said Head Coach Hershey Strosberg. “We have talked about working hard for each other for 90 minutes, and we did that for 89 minutes and 52 seconds tonight.

“I’ve seen us play hard and I’ve seen us play well. With the ACC season starting next week, we have to look at the things we did well tonight and correct what we need to correct in order to play at the level we are capable of. It has to be for 90 minutes. We can’t have anything less.”

Clemson will return to action on Thursday, September 23 when it plays host to N.C. State in the team’s first game of the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference season. The game between the Tigers and the Wolfpack is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM on Thursday at Historic Riggs Field and will be broadcast live on ClemsonTigers.com via TigerCast.
