Clemson Women’s Soccer Program Announces 2008 Schedule

June 3, 2008

CLEMSON, SC – Head Coach Hershey Strosberg announced the Clemson women’s soccer program’s 2008 schedule on Tuesday afternoon. Ten of the Tigers’ 17 opponents for the 2008 season advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2007, including eventual national champion Southern Cal and runner-up Florida State.

“We have 10 of 17 opponents on our schedule that made the NCAA tournament last year, including a game at home against the defending national champion. That, along with the always demanding ACC schedule, will definitely challenge us throughout the season,” said Strosberg.

Clemson will open the season with a trip to Charleston, SC for an exhibition contest against Charleston Southern on August 16. The Tigers’ regular season will begin on Friday, August 22 at home against UAB. Clemson will also play host to Presbyterian and UNC Asheville in August before traveling to Columbia to face South Carolina and Francis Marion in the Carolina’s Cup on September 5 and 7, respectively.

The Tigers will then have a week off as they prepare to play host to Southern Cal, the 2007 National Champion, on Sunday, September 14. Clemson’s final contest before beginning the Atlantic Coast Conference season will be at Furman on Friday, September 19.

Clemson will open conference play on Thursday, September 25 as it plays host to defending ACC Champion North Carolina. The Tigers will have three more league home games, against Virginia Tech, Virginia and N.C. State, in early October before hitting the road for an October 12 match up at Wake Forest.

The team will play its final regular season home game on Thursday, October 16 against Miami and will close the regular season with four ACC road contests. The Tigers will head to Tallahassee, FL to take on 2007 national runner-up Florida State on October 23 and will meet Duke in Durham on October 26. Clemson’s final two league matches will be at Maryland on October 30 and at Boston College on November 2.

The ACC Championships will return to Cary, NC in 2008 after taking a break from that facility to be held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, FL last year. The league tournament will begin on Wednesday, November 5 in Cary, and will conclude with the championship game on Sunday, November 9.
