Clemson Wins ACC Showdown Against Cavs

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Cindy Mullinix scored early in the overtime period in leading second-ranked Clemson to a 2-1 win over Virginia in a women’s Atlantic Coast Conference soccer match here Friday night.

Mullinix scored the game-winner at the 91:57 mark as she received a cross from Lindsay Browne.

Clemson took a 1-0 lead with 40:03 gone in the match. Heather Beem took a long shot that went into the left side of the goal.

Virginia tied the score at the 56:40 mark. Ashley Meeker sent a corner kick to Sarah Lane. Lane headed the ball into the right side.

Clemson remains undefeated with a 11-0 record overall, 3-0 in the ACC. Virginia falls to 5-5 this season, 1-2 in league play. Clemson is ranked second nationally by Soccer America and the NSCAA. Virginia is ranked 18th by Soccer America and 14th by the NSCAA.

The Lady Tigers will play at Richmond Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
