Clemson upsets 10th-ranked Duke 1-0

DURHAM, NC–Britten Meyer scored the game’s only goal in leading Clemson to a 1-0 upset win over 10th-ranked Duke in a women’s Atlantic Coast Conference match at Durham, NC Friday night.

With the win, Clemson improves to 10-5 overall, 4-3 in the ACC, while Duke falls to 11-4 overall, and 4-2 in league play. Duke is ranked 10th by the NSCAA and 16th by Soccer America.

Jenny Anderson served the ball into the box on a corner kick. Meyer fired a shot from 18 yards out for her first goal of the season with only 8:39 gone in the match.

“It was a great win for us on the road,” said Clemson Head Coach Todd Bramble. “It was an excellent team effort to go on the road and get the result. Our defense played great and our two goalkeepers, Ashley Phillips and Lauren Johnston did a wonderful job.”

Clemson will play at Virginia on Sunday, October 24 in the Lady Tigers’ next action.
