Clemson, SC – Freshman Paige Ledford scored three goals and registered one assist in Clemson’s 7-0 win over Mercer on Sunday afternoon at Historic Riggs Field in the Tigers final exhibition match of the season. Clemson played 24 out the 25 players on their roster and out shot the Bears 35-7 for the match. With the win, Clemson ends its exhibition season with a 1-0-1 record.
Also impressive for the Tigers were sophomore forwards Heather Beem and Lindsay Browne who each tallied one goal and three assists. Browne, the National Freshman of the Year last season, and Beem took a combined nine shots in the match for the Tigers. Tricia Williams and Deliah Arrington each added a goal and an assist in Clemson’s offensive explosion. Last season’s All-ACC goalkeeper Katie Carson started in goal for Clemson, but sophomore Leigh Ann Harrison saw action in the second half of the match.
“The key to the victory today was our ability to out possess Mercer and the way we were able to stay unpredictable throughout the game,” stated first year Clemson Head Coach Todd Bramble. “We put together another good week of practice and I think our team has grown up a great deal in a weeks time. I am real excited about not only Page Ledford, but also Jenny Anderson and Sarah Turner who each should provide a spark for our team this season coming off of the bench.”
Clemson’s next action will be on Sunday, September 2 at 2:00 as the Tigers begin regular season play against Richmond at Historic Riggs Field.
