Clemson to Play in US Collegiate to Finish Fall Schedule

CLEMSON, SC – Corbin Mills and the Clemson Tigers will return to the links in the US Collegiate in Alpharetta, GA at the Golf Club of Georgia Sunday afternoon. The 54-hole event will run Sunday through Tuesday and will conclude the fall portion of Clemson schedule.

Clemson will be one of 14 teams in the field that includes ACC teams Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia and Wake Forest in addition to the Tigers. Other schools in the field include Auburn, East Tennessee, Iowa, Kent State, Southern California, UCLA and Washington.

Larry Penley will take two seniors, a junior and two freshmen to the US Collegiate. Corbin Mills leads the Tigers with a 70.78 stroke average for three tournaments. The United States Public Links champion has had Clemson’s best score of the day in seven of the nine rounds he has played this year.

McCuen Elmore has been Clemson’s second best player in terms of stroke average this year with a 72.56 figure. The senior has five rounds of par or better and had a top 10 finish at the Carpet Classic in the first tournament of the year.

Jacob Burger returns to the lineup this week. The senior has a 74.00 average and has had three rounds of 72 or better so far this year.

Two freshmen round out the Clemson lineup. Billy Kennerly was Clemson’s top golfer the last time out, a 15th place finish at the Bank of Tennessee at Blackthorn in Johnson City, TN. He had a 220 score and has a 74.0 stroke average for the year. Hayden Garrett will be Clemson’s number-five player. He had a solid performance at the Bank of Tennessee with a 224 score, including a two under par 70 in the second round.

Clemson has won the tournament twice, in the spring of 2006 and in the spring of 2009.
