CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team, ranked #15 in the latest Fila/ITA Tennis poll, will open play in the 2006 NCAA Regional Championships on Friday, May 12. The Tigers will face the Siena Saints at 10:30 am at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, SC. The Tigers earned the 15th overall seed in the tournament and the #1 seed in the regional after posting a 16-7 record for the season. Siena brings a 14-6 ledger into the NCAA first round match-up.
The Saints received their first ever bid to the NCAA Championships after winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament on Apr. 23. Friday’s contest will be the first meeting in history between Clemson and Siena.
The Tigers are led by sophomore Carol Salge and freshman Federica van Adrichem. The duo has posted a 12-8 record as Clemson’s top doubles team, defeating five ranked opponents during the 2006 season. In singles play, Salge owns a 24-9 overall record with a 17-6 mark in dual matches, while van Adrichem has compiled an overall ledger of 21-13 with a 12-9 record in the spring season.
Tickets for the regional matches will be available at the gate and are $5 for adults and $3 for youth and college students with ID. They cannot be purchased prior to the matches. The parking lot adjacent to the Fike Recreation Center on Heisman Street will be reserved for the 2006 NCAA Women’s Tennis Regional Championships.

The regional final will be held on Saturday, May 13 at 11:00 am at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The second-round match will feature the winners from Friday’s contests. Kentucky and Furman will meet Friday afternoon at 1:30 pm in the second first-round contest of the Clemson regional.
