Clemson, SC — Clemson is ranked sixth in the nation in the preseason Golf World/Nike Coaches Poll released on Wednesday. Clemson was ranked in all nine Golf World polls last year and finished fifth in the nation. That was Clemson’s highest ranking last year. This is Clemson’s highest preseason ranking since 2006-07 when the Tigers were fourth.
Over the last 12 full seasons there have been 154 college golf polls and Clemson has been ranked in the top 25 for 151 of those weeks. Clemson has been ranked in the top 10 on 122 weeks and in the top five 105 weeks. That includes a number-one ranking 21 times.
UCLA is ranked number-one with 618 points. The Bruins won the National Championship last year at the Purdue University course. Oklahoma State is second followed by Georgia, Southern Cal and Stanford. The Tigers are sixth, followed by Florida, Alabama, Texas A&M and Georgia Tech.
Clemson junior Kyle Stanley is ranked as the number-four golfer in the nation by Golf World. Rickie Fowler, a sophomore at Oklahoma State, is ranked first.
