Clemson Signee Earns Invitation to Wyndham Championship

June 18, 2011

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson signee Billy Kennerly, who will enroll at Clemson in August, won the FJ Invitational and claimed his first AJGA victory at Sedgefield Country Club. Kennerly’s 11-under-par 269 tournament total tied the 72-hole FJ Invitational tournament record. The victory earned Kennerly a Sponsor’s Exemption to the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship in August. Kennerly had the lead in the event after each of the four rounds.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the FJ Invitational was a 72-hole stroke play event at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. The 99-player field featured golfers from 23 states and 10 foreign countries. Home of the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship, the par-70 course played at 7,116 yards.

Kennerly’s win made history as he now shares the FJ Invitational tournament record with Andrew Yun, who carded an 11-under-par 277 at Forest Oaks Country Club in 2006. His 269 total is also the second-lowest 72-hole total in AJGA history (268 — Matthew Rosenfeld, 2001 HP Boys Championship).

“There have been a lot of great players that have won this tournament and gone on to do really good things,” Kennerly said. “Hopefully I can follow in their footsteps.”

Kennerly is currently ranked No. 19 in the Polo Golf Rankings.
