Clemson Rowing Wins Two Races at SIRA Championships

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The Clemson rowing team won two races and placed second in two others at the SIRA Championships on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, TN, this weekend. The Grand Finals were held on Sunday morning.

The Tigers won the Women’s Junior Varsity 8+ race in 7:02.0. Purdue was second at 7:03.2, and Tennessee was third with a time of 7:04.04. Miami placed fourth in 7:08.4, while Washington College was fifth in a time of 7:013.3. Texas placed sixth, finishing the course in 7:16.7.

Clemson also won the Women’s Novice 8+ in 7:02.02. Texas placed second with a time of 7:10.7, and Miami was third in 7:15.4. Central Florida placed fourth (7:17.0), and Purdue was fifth (7:25.2). Tennessee finished sixth in 7:30.9.

Clemson placed second in the Women’s Varsity 8+ race. Miami won in 6:48.7, and the Tigers followed with a time of 6:50.1. Texas was third with a time of 6:50.6, and Purdue fourth in 6:51.5. Tulsa finished fifth (6:57.4), and Central Florida was sixth (7:01.1).

The top three teams were only separated by 1.4 seconds in the Women’s Varsity 4+ race. Florida Tech placed first with a time of 7:55.2, and Georgia Tech was second in 7:55.5. Clemson finished third with a time of 7:56.6. Indiana took fourth with a time of 8:05.3, while Rollins was fifth with a time of 8:10.4. Florida placed sixth with a time of 8:14.1.

The Second Women’s Novice 8+ was a final-only competition on Saturday. Texas placed first in 7:22.5, and Clemson was second in 7:35.6. Tennessee placed third in 8:16.0, and Dayton was fourth with a time of 8:23.3. The Clemson Club team finished fifth, recording a time of 8:49.9

“Today was an outstanding day of racing,” said Clemson head coach Susie Lueck. “We had great performances by all our crews. We raced well against good competition, especially from the varsity teams from Miami, Tennessee and Texas.”
