Clemson, SC – The Clemson rowing team will play host to Eastern Michigan and Northeastern Saturday morning at 9:00 am in their first regatta of the spring. The Tigers are coming off a strong fall, where they participated in the Head of the Hooch regatta and the Lanier Night Sprints.
“We are really excited to welcome Eastern Michigan and Northeastern to Clemson for our race this weekend. We had Eastern Michigan on our schedule last year, and we are happy that Northeastern decided to join us for our opening weekend of racing on Lake Hartwell. Northeastern’s first varsity 8 finished the fall racing season in strong fashion with a 5th place finish at the Head of the Charles regatta in Boston. Our student athletes are looking forward to a great challenge this weekend against all of the boats we will be racing,” said Clemson Head Coach Robbie Tenenbaum.
Clemson is slated to enter seven boats in the regatta, which will include four races on Lake Hartwell. Clemson, Northeastern and Eastern Michigan are entering one boat each in the First Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8 races, starting at 9:00 am and 9:20 am, respectively.
The Varsity 4 race will see the most competition, with Clemson entering three boats, Northeastern entering two, and Eastern Michigan entering one. The final race, beginning at 10:00 am, will feature two Clemson boats and one Northeastern boat in the Fourth Varsity 8.
“Our focus this past fall and winter has been to get a little bit better every day. I am so very proud of our young women for giving a tremendous effort in all of our practices: in the weight room, on the rowing machines and on the water. We have made great progress and have grown as a group everyday. Our student-athletes are pumped to race on Saturday, and I can’t wait to see them in our first competition of the spring”, Tenenbaum said.
The Tigers will return to action March 12, when they host Charleston (WV).
