Clemson Rowing Competes In Head of Lake Hartwell

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson rowing team played host to the Clemson Club team this Sunday in the Head of Lake Hartwell Regatta. The Tigers’ boats posted strong finishes with the Varsity 4+ winning its race.

Tiger rowing head coach Susie Lueck said, “This was a good season opener to gain early season experience. It was an opportunity to identify areas to improve upon for our next races.”

In the Championship 8+ race that pitted Clemson Crew’s men’s boat against the Tigers’ Varsity 8+ boats, Clemson Crew’s men won the race with a time of 18:48.8. Clemson rowing “A” followed closely posting a time of 19:36.9 and Clemson rowing “B”, competing with only seven rowers plus the coxswain, finished with a time of 23:17.5.

The Tigers’ 4+ boats swept the first and second spot in the Championship 4+ race. Clemson rowing “A” finished with a winning time of 22:07.6 followed closely by Clemson rowing “B” with a time of 22:23.3. Clemson Crew 4+ boat recorded a time of 28:38.1.

The Tigers also announced the newest members of the 2002-03 Clemson rowing team, listed below. “We are excited to have such a talented group, both athletically and academically. They are very committed, have great team unity and are a blast to work with. I look forward to the 2002-03 racing season,” said assistant coach Kelly Lynch about the new Tiger rowing team members.

The Tigers will compete next in the fifth annual Clemson Class Day on Saturday, October 12 on Lake Hartwell.
