Clemson Ranked Ninth Nationally in Men?s Soccer

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s soccer team, off to its best start since the 2006 season, is ranked ninth nationally according to the Soccer America poll released Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers are ranked 15th in the topdrawer.com soccer poll. In the National Soccer Coaches of America Association poll (NSCAA), the Tigers are ranked 20th.Clemson is 25th in the College Soccer News listing. The Tigers are 4-0 this season having posted wins over Mercer, South Carolina, Virginia, and Gardner-Webb. The Tigers are 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.This is the first time since September 4, 2007 that the Tigers have been ranked nationally. That week the Tigers were ranked 19th by the NSCAA. The ninth place spot is the highest that the Tigers have been ranked since November 6, 2006. That week, Soccer America had the Tigers ranked ninth.The Tigers have a long tradition of being ranked over the years. Clemson has been ranked 287 times by the NSCAA poll that first started in 1971. Clemson has also appeared in 234 Soccer America polls including 158 top-10 appearances since their inaugural poll in 1980.“I am pleased about being ranked,” said Clemson Head Coach Mike Noonan who is in his fourth season. “This recognizes that we are off to a good start and moving the program in the right direction, but what’s most important is us performing at the standard we are capable of playing and in that regard both the players and the coaches recognize we have a long way to go.“I also want to give a shout out to the Clemson fans,” said Noonan.
